MUNCIE, Ind.  – In celebration of the completion of the Muncie Sanitary District’s latest sewer separation project in the Historic Highland Park Neighborhood, a ribbon cutting ceremony took place on Thursday, August 11.

This project, introduced by Mayor Dennis Tyler as “the first major quality of place project in this end of town in 30 years” has provided residents of the Historic Highland Park Neighborhood improved access to the White River.

This project includes the restoration of Ribble and Luick Avenues, the construction of an additional road named Seymour Street and the addition of a bus stop. Sustainability is the emphasis of these renovations, including river access, a stormwater wetland, Cardinal Greenway connection and trailhead with parking. The added sustainable features were made possible through the Muncie Sanitary District’s partnership with Bowen Engineering Corporation, Flatland Resources, Rundell Ernstberger Associates and United Consulting.

Mike Cline, Muncie Sanitary District Board Vice President and City of Muncie Engineer, emphasized the benefits these renovations will have on the quality of water in the White River, particularly upstream. The kayak launch provides an opportunity for Muncie residents to access the river for recreation, while closing off potential overflow.

Just before the ribbon cutting took place, CEO of United Consulting, Bill Hall, commended all partners in this project. He expressed the vision the teams had for Historic Highland Park and the desire to make this positive change in the Muncie community.
