Muncie, IN— The Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) will host several events, including two military-themed events, this weekend at the International Aeromodeling Center (IAC) in Muncie. If you enjoy model flying, aviation, or history, you won’t want to miss this weekend’s activities.

The Indiana Warbird Campaign is celebrating 15 years this year with its special theme, “Salute to our Veterans.” Pilots from across the country will gather to fly their Giant Scale RC airplanes. The aircraft are designed to replicate World War I and World War II aircraft. The event includes two weekend air shows, both starting at 12:30 p.m. Each show will include reenactments, including pyrotechnics and special effects. The cost to attend and watch the two air shows is only $5 per carload.

AMA Warrior Day, a veterans-only event, will also be held at the AMA this weekend. The purpose of the event is to introduce veterans and their families to different aspects of model aviation. Pilots from the Blacksheep R/C Modelers club of Danville, IN, will be on-site to teach the veterans and their families how to fly using a transmitter. Other activities include flight simulator training; make-and-take kites, rockets, and gliders; and tours of the National Model Aviation Museum. Thank you to McAlister’s Deli for providing free lunch for the attending veterans. All activities will be offered at no cost, but all planning to attend must preregister online https://amablog.modelaircraft.org/amafoundation/what-we-do/upcoming-events/warriorday/

AMA will host the Jet Precision Aerobatics Championships (F3S) at the IAC on Labor Day weekend as well. Jet pilots holding an AMA turbine waiver can compete in the following classifications of competition: Sport Jet – FAI Sequence, Scale Jet – FAI Sequence, F3S EDF – shortened sequence, and Freestyle. Some of the best pilots in the world will be competing. Spectators will marvel at the precision of the jets, which will be flying at tremendous speeds of 130 to 150 mph through a sequence in a 75° aerobatic box. To learn more about the first Jet Precision Aerobatic Championships, visit the F3S Jet Precision Aerobatics Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/F3S-Jet-Precision-Aerobatics-601790936610075/.

While on-site, don’t forget to stop by the National Model Aviation Museum. The museum, which is the largest of its kind in the world, will be open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
