Muncie, Ind. – The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc., through the Town of Yorktown Endowment Fund, is awarding $3,345 in grants to three organizations serving the Yorktown Community.

BY5 Early Childhood Initiative has been awarded $545 to support Kickoff to Kindergarten at Pleasant View Elementary School. The program, which will run in the weeks prior to school’s start, is designed to improve readiness of incoming kindergarteners.

The Yorktown Council for the Arts has been awarded $1,800 to purchase audio/visual equipment to support their free outdoor events in Yorktown. The new outdoor projector and movie screen will be used for Movies in the Meadows, a free, family-friendly outdoor movie event hosted in Morrows Meadows Park monthly through the summer.

The Yorktown Junior Athletic Association has been awarded $1,000 to replace equipment that will improve the safety of their programs. Each year, the Yorktown JAA serves 450 participants through their tee ball, baseball and softball programs.

The Town of Yorktown Endowment Fund was established in 2000 by Howard Gregory, a longtime resident and leader in the community.  Howard took great pride in his community and wanted to make sure that Yorktown continued to thrive and grow long after he was gone.  In 2008 marketing and promotion efforts were relaunched for this important fund. With significant help from the Yorktown Lions Club an additional $30,000 was contributed to this fund.  The Town of Yorktown Endowment Fund at The Community Foundation guarantees a steady stream of income to fund worthwhile projects in Yorktown for years to come.  Applications are accepted annually on May 1.

The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc. is a publicly supported philanthropic institution governed by a volunteer board of local citizens.  The Foundation manages contributions donated by individuals, businesses and corporations as a permanent community endowment.  Distributions from these funds are given back to the community in the form of grants to non-profit organizations.  To date, over $51 million has been awarded to enrich the lives of the residents of Muncie and Delaware County.
