Muncie, IN —Won’t you be our neighbor? Join WIPB for the fifth annual Be My Neighbor Day from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at Canan Commons in downtown Muncie.

Enjoy free family activities, live entertainment and more with some of Muncie’s great neighbors! Rain location will be YMCA of Muncie (across the street from the park.)

At this year’s event, families will be able to pick up special 5-year-celebration goodies, including backpacks filled with stickers, bookmarks and placemats (free, one per family while supplies last), and T-shirts (available for purchase).

“And, of course, everyone will be able to meet Daniel Tiger,” said Michelle Kinsey, WIPB’s Community Engagement and Grants Manager. “He’s very excited about helping us celebrate five years of this grrr-ific event!”

Based on the popular PBS KIDS animated program “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood” and with a nod to the classic “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood,” the event focuses on the importance of being a good neighbor.

Canan Commons will be transformed into a “neighborhood” where kids will use a map to lead them through the “streets” lined with nearly 20 neighbors from community centers, arts organizations, neighborhood groups and more. At each booth, kids will be able to participate in neighborly activities. Families will also discover ways to give back, from volunteer opportunities to supporting local arts and culture.

Kids will also be able to hop on the MITS “Neighborhood Trolley,” dance to music from Ruditoonz and enjoy a performance by Muncie Civic Theatre.

At the end of their visit to the “neighborhood,” children will be able to collect “Good Neighbor” awards.

Hope you will join us! It’s going to be a beautiful day in the neighborhood!

Be My Neighbor Day is presented by MutualBank. Major support provided by The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc., and Community Hospital Anderson. Additional support from Leland C. Wilhoite DDS, PC and Muncie Optimists.
