Muncie Pride Schedules First Event and Offers Scholarship Opportunity

Muncie, IN—Muncie Pride, celebrating the LGBTQ community, has scheduled an event from 1-8 p.m., Sept. 19 at Canan Commons. It will feature a stage show with bands and performers, in addition to educational opportunities, merchandise vendors, food trucks and a beer garden.

As part of this event, a $1000 and $500 scholarship will be awarded based on a 2,000 word, or less, essay about the origins of the gay pride flag.  Applicants must be currently enrolled in either high school in Delaware County or a student of a collegiate institution living in the Muncie area.

The deadline to apply for the scholarships is June 1, with the winners to be announced at the end of June.  The original April deadline was extended due to the coronavirus.

Muncie Pride 2020 is also seeking volunteers and sponsors. Details are also on the website.

“Muncie Pride will be an all inclusive event with activites for families and all age groups,” said SteVen Knipp, event executive director. “It promises to be a fun event.”

Planning on the event is continuing despite the current coronavirus lockdown in Indiana, said Knipp, Hopefully, nearer to the event the pandemic situation will have abated and we can proceed as planned.

Muncie Pride is partnered with Muncie OUTreach to serve as an organization of LGBTQ+ individuals within the Muncie community dedicated to inclusion, diversity, education and the sharing of resources in the Muncie community.

Muncie Pride is a non-profit organization that relies on the support of donors and sponsors such as IU Health Ball Hospital, Ball State office of Inclusive Excellence, and others.
