Muncie, IN—Beginning February 12, the YMCA of Muncie will offer food distribution at the Downtown Y to provide healthy meals for children 18 and under over the weekend.

The YMCA of Muncie received a waiver from the USDA to provide meals in bulk to sustain children over the weekend when they will not have access to nutritious meals at school. Recipients will be provided with three dinners and three snacks to ensure no child is hungry.  “The YMCA does many wonderful things for families in our community, and this is another great example,” MCS Director of Public Education and CEO Lee Ann Kwiatkowski said. “This program is a great complement to the meals we distribute to students throughout the school week. It’s good to know there’s another resource now available to them over the weekend.”

In addition to providing weekend meals, the YMCA has also partnered with the Ross Community Center to provide their participants dinner and a snack, Monday through Friday beginning February 22. “The Ross Community Center is pleased to establish this partnership with the Y to support the youth of our community through evening meals.” Says Ross Center Executive Director, Jacqueline Hanoman.

“During times of uncertainty, families can count on the Y to provide essential services for the community,” says Chad Zaucha, President and CEO, YMCA of Muncie “The YMCA of Muncie is committed to ensuring kids in our communities have ongoing, uninterrupted access to nutrition.”
