Muncie, IN The community is invited to enjoy a blast from the past as Muncie Symphony Orchestra performs popular hits from The Beatles in a free outdoor concert on Saturday, June 12.

The show will include over two dozen Beatles classics, including “Yesterday” with an acoustic guitar and string quartet, “Penny Lane” with a live trumpet section, “I Am the Walrus” with a rock/classical blend and more.

The concert will be done in tandem with Classical Mystery Tour, a renowned Beatles cover band that performs with symphony orchestras for an unforgettable experience.

Scott Watkins, executive director of the MSO, said the group puts on a great show, complete with costumes.

The way they play, it’s perfect. You’ll come out of there singing,” he said.

Watkins joined the MSO in February, bringing with him a refreshed vision for the orchestra, which includes playing more “pops” music. Watkins said this concert will be a preview of what the community can expect from the MSO this year.

“We’re using this concert to break the ice and say, ‘Hey we’re different. We’re not just your grandma’s orchestra anymore,’” he said. The MSO’s 2021–22 season features additional pops music, including hits from Billy Joel, John Williams and more.

The Beatles tribute concert will be from 7:30–9:30 p.m. at Canan Commons (600 S Walnut St.) in downtown Muncie on June 12. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs or blankets.
