A few simple tips can help save energy during these hot temperatures

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Temperatures are rising this week and will again as we head into the warm summer months. Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) is Powering the Next Energy-saving Tip to help customers save energy while staying cool.

Warmer temperatures often bring higher usage for customers, which could cause an increase in bills. I&M has simple tips, tools and programs to enable customers to take control of their energy usage.

Easy, no-cost ways to save energy:

  • Set your thermostat a little higher during summer. You can reduce cooling costs by 3 to 4% for each degree of adjustment. Changing the temperature from 74°F to 78°F could lower your energy bill by more than 10%.
  • Make sure your ceiling fan is set to run counterclockwise in the summer, pushing cooler air down.
  • Move furnishings away from the floor or return air vents and change air filters

Reduce Energy Use on Hot Days and Earn Bill Credits:
