MUNCIE, IN—The Kiwanis Club of Muncie recently elected and inducted new officers for the 2022-2023 year and discussed fundraising efforts for the club.

Ed Armantrout, President of the Yorktown Kiwanis Club and a District Lt. Governor of Kiwanis, assisted with the pinning ceremony. Officers for the coming year include: Paul Zedekar, Immediate Past President; Cornelius Dollison, President; David Dixon, President-Elect; Matt Harkin, Treasurer; and Susan Fisher, Secretary. Additionally, several members were elected to the club’s Board of Directors. This includes: Gloria Adams, Tom Alexander, Tim Condon, Felicia Dixon, Scott Metzler, and Bruce Qualls.

The club also determined that the Kiwanis Christmas Tree fundraising lot, a holiday tradition for many years in the Muncie community, would no longer take place. Historically, the tree lot was a regular event and was located in the parking lot next to the Muncie Central Fieldhouse. The combination of an ongoing shortage of Christmas trees due to tree-farming issues, such as needle drop disease, and the restrictions in place during the COVID-19 pandemic prevented the tree lot from taking place the past two years.

Another factor influencing the decision to no longer host the tree lot was that the club has approximately 40 members, making it harder to fully staff the lot for the tree-selling season. Instead, the club will sell two-pound cans of deluxe roasted nuts for $25. Anyone interested in buying nuts can stop by Kiwanis member Tom Leaird’s Underwater Service at 1623 W. Jackson St. during open hours to purchase nuts or can message the club on its Facebook page.

The Kiwanis Club of Muncie is a service organization that undertakes a number of programs to improve the community through service to youth, including the Terrific Kid Program, books to all Head Start children each December, student leadership programs at local schools, support services for patients and their families at Riley Hospital for Children, and sponsorship of scouting and other youth activities. The club is always open to new members.

Annual dues are $155. The club meets on most Wednesdays at noon at MCL in the Muncie Mall. Those interested in joining can message the club on its Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/kiwanisclubofmuncie/ or you can call club Secretary Susan Fisher at (765) 741-7336.
