MUNCIE, IN—Mayor Dan Ridenour held a press conference today to announce that the North Shore Campground at Prairie Creek Reservoir will not be leasing any campsites for the 2026 season. This temporary pause allows the City to begin an extensive reimagining of the 36-acre area that currently includes 234 campsites.

City officials emphasized that this decision is focused solely on the North Shore Campground. All other Prairie Creek Reservoir amenities, including boating, docks, trails, beaches, shelters, and cabins will continue to operate as normal.

Over the next year, the City will gather input from a variety of stakeholders, including residents, recreation experts, and community partners, to determine how the property can best serve the long-term needs of Muncie and Delaware County. The goal is to create a space that expands amenities, attracts new visitors, and encourages individuals to live and work in the Muncie area.

“This will provide us with a clean slate, it will allow us to do what is necessary to reimagine that site” Mayor Dan Ridenour stated during the announcement. “When we come back we’re going to have something that is positive that fits the needs of the community and the City of Muncie.”

More information regarding public input opportunities will be released in the coming months.
