Muncie, Ind. – New for the 2016-2017 academic year, Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship recipients will be named in December. Applications are now available from The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc. at www.cfmdin.org for high school seniors who will graduate in 2017. Students who qualify for this scholarship should submit an application to their guidance office by the deadline set by their school – either late August or early September. Each school will review their own applications and will submit recommendations to The Community Foundation Scholarship Committee no later than September 12, 2016.

The 2017 recipients of the Delaware County Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship will be named in December 2016 by The Community Foundation. Previously, scholarship recipients were identified in February of the year they graduated from high school. This change affects the program for all Indiana community foundations.

The advanced timeline is the result of recommendations from community foundations who participated in a statewide evaluation of the program conducted by Lilly Endowment Inc. in 2015. During the evaluation process, a number of community foundations suggested that identifying Lilly Scholars earlier in the school year would give the recipients more time to decide which college or university to attend.

The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship is awarded to Delaware County residents graduating with a diploma from an accredited high school who plan to pursue a full-time baccalaureate degree from an accredited Indiana public or private college or university.

In selecting recipients for the Delaware County Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship, consideration is given to student activities and achievements, community and civic service, academic ability and potential for leadership. Candidates must be in the upper 20 percent of their class and have either a combined SAT score of at least 1050 or an ACT score of 23 or above.

Deadlines for all other scholarships administered through The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc. will remain unchanged; those applications will be due March 1, 2017.
