Portland, IN – Jay County Hospital will officially join IU Health on March 1, becoming IU Health Jay Hospital. The announcement followed a vote of approval from the Jay County Council and Commissioners and the signing of the definitive agreement between Jay County Hospital and IU Health.
The two parties signed a letter of intent in August agreeing to enter exclusive negotiations. Over the past four months, officials from IU Health and Jay County Hospital discussed the ideal future state of IU Health Jay. Town halls were recently held to allow Jay County Hospital team members to ask questions and learn more about IU Health.
“Today is an exciting day for Jay County Hospital, its employees and the Portland community” said David Littler, Board Chair for Jay County Hospital. “The expertise and capabilities that IU Health can offer will strengthen the level of healthcare that can be provided locally.”
Jay County Hospital is a 25 bed critical access hospital located in Portland, Indiana. In March it will become the third IU Health hospital located in East Central Indiana, bringing the total number of IU Health hospitals in Indiana to 16. IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital has managed Jay County Hospital since 1998. With the signed agreement, IU Health will assume all assets and liabilities as of March 1.

Over the coming months, teams from Jay County Hospital, IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital and IU Health will be working to merge systems and processes to ensure a seamless transition for patients on March 1.
