Muncie, IN—TechWise Academy is partnering with the Innovation Connector to invite the community to participate in a number of computer science activities in a Tech Summit. On Wednesday, July 18, 6-7:30 p.m., parents and children are invited to learn more about command blocks in Minecraft, Roblox development, and try coding LEGO EV3 Mindstorm, WeDo, and Ollie robots.

The Tech Summit is to raise money for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Muncie middle school STEAM program. The goal is to raise $4,000 to sponsor 1 year of STEAM programming and purchase up to 10 LEGO EV3 Mindstorm robots for its members.

“We are thrilled to continue, and expand, our partnerships with TechWise Academy and Innovation Connector. Not only does STEAM education help our members prepare for an ever-changing job market, but it also opens up all sorts of ideas and opportunities,” said Jason Newman, CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Muncie. “On the practical side, it is estimated that almost 55 million jobs may go unfilled due to shortages in skilled workers, especially in STEAM related fields. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Muncie, TechWise Academy, and Innovation Connector are all committed to opening up these opportunities for all of our members.”

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Muncie is committed to closing the opportunity gap in science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM) with innovative and creative programs. Members learn and apply the design process, basic computer science concepts and problem solving to the development and presentation of their own app ideas.

“Our goal at TechWise is to expose as many students as possible to computer science and technology in ECI,” said Ryan Hunter, co-founder at TechWise Academy. “We’re proud to partner with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Muncie and Innovation Connector on this initiative to provide these opportunities to the Club kids.”
