Editor’s note: Shafer Leadership Academy and the Muncie Downtown Development Partnership are partnering on this six part series to highlight innovative leaders who are redefining typical during these extraordinary times.

Muncie, INGeorge Insurance Group’s promise is to “overwhelm families and businesses with customer service, responsiveness and a personal touch that you have never seen.”

“Our new tagline is ‘where relationships are built …,’ and we live out that model every day by working hard with our clients to be more than just their insurance provider.  We strive to know our clients.  The more we learn about a person, the stronger the relationship develops.”

Since March, owner David George and his team at George Insurance Group have lived up to that motto and then some—working alongside businesses to develop COVID-19 policies, procedures and processes to safely re-open, while protecting employees. They have helped businesses adjust premiums and delay payments to provide some financial relief, and they have established an online portal for clients to access important documents and conduct business via the insurance group’s encrypted site. Apps for Android and iPhone allow customers to review policies, request auto identification cards, and start a claim, among other services.

George also keeps up a blog that offers helpful tips about a variety of topics, including preparing homes for winter, navigating insurance after a natural disaster, and deciding on an insurance agent.

He’s tired, yet the Indiana native remains hopeful.

“It’s been difficult on everyone, and we are no different than a restaurant, retailer or manufacturer, but I want to tell everyone that we are all going to be Ok,” said George, from his office at 311 S. Walnut Street. “We need to be cautious, stay safe and remain vigilant. We all need to protect our families, neighbors, city and county. But we also need to remain confident that normal will return.”

George said he has been grateful for the ongoing support of his clients, of which about 90 percent are businesses. He is a proud supporter of the Muncie community and actively involved in promoting East Central Indiana as an ideal place to live and work.

George Insurance Group is a full-service, independent insurance agency that serves East Central Indiana and beyond. Representing more than 45 carriers, the group is focused on the following types of insurance for businesses and individuals:

  • Commercial: Comprehensive and customized risk management programs specifically tailored for clients of all sizes.
  • Homeowners: Coverage that makes sense, brought to clients in a convenient, personalized and thorough manner.
  • Life: It’s not always the easiest topic to discuss, but life insurance gives families peace of mind.
  • Aviation: No plane is too big or too small, from business jets to hobbyist aircrafts.

Those experiences gave him the confidence to “take the plunge” and establish his own operation, which is supported by Stewart Brimner & Peters, a large Fort Wayne agency.
