Muncie, Ind. – Parents and caregivers of young children can enroll their students in Muncie Community Schools’ (MCS) kindergarten and pre-kindergarten programs this week during a series of in-person registration events. Masks will be required and social distancing guidelines will be followed. Families will need to provide proof of residence as well as the child’s birth certificate and immunization records to be enrolled.

“We are excited to be able to welcome families into each of the schools so they can meet our fabulous staff and see where the children will spend their days,” MCS Director of Public Education and CEO Lee Ann Kwiatkowski said. “We hope parents with children three to five years old will take advantage of these opportunities.”

MCS’ pre-school program is certified as a Paths to Quality Level 3 program at five of its six elementary schools with the sixth expected to be approved by June. That means it meets the state’s high standards of excellence for health and safety, curriculum, child development and school readiness.

The pre-school program is a full-day, Monday – Friday program open to all students three to five years old. Financial assistance is available for families through the state’s Family and Social Services Administration “On My Way Pre-K” program: www.in.gov/fssa/carefinder/on-my-way-pre-k/. Any child who turns five by September 1 is eligible to enroll in kindergarten.

Each elementary school in the district will have its own special hours available for families to visit and get students registered. The schedule is as follows:

  • West View Elementary (by appointment – call 765-747-5437) – Tuesday, April 6: 8:30 – 10 a.m. and 3 – 4:30 p.m. and Wednesday, April 14: 4 – 6 p.m.
