Agreement now extends to 2024

Muncie, Ind. – The Muncie Community Schools Board of Trustees last night approved the renewal of the district’s lease with Ball State University (BSU) for Northside Middle School. The new deal extends the agreement through June 30, 2024, and reinforces the two institutions’ commitment of “placing learners first.”

“Ball State does so much to support our students and staff and we couldn’t be more appreciative,” MCS Director of Public Education and CEO Lee Ann Kwiatkowski said. “This arrangement at Northside has been working well. It’s a great school with tremendous leadership and a wonderful staff, so extending this agreement is extremely important for the district as we move forward.”

MCS and Ball State have one of the most unique educational partnerships in the country. It officially began in 2018 and includes the university’s decision to purchase several MCS facilities, including Northside Middle School. MCS pays BSU $1/year to lease the building.

“The partnership between Muncie Community Schools and Ball State University has been a great achievement,” Ball State Associate Vice President for Facilities Planning and Management and MCS Board Member James Lowe said. “The collaboration between our talented teachers and faculty is truly inspiring and has led to remarkable student success, and Ball State understands that Northside Middle School is essential for the growth of the school system.”

Northside is located at 2400 W. Bethel Avenue. The facility includes an 800 seat auditorium, gymnasium, media center, labs and classrooms.
