Muncie, IN—Heather Williams was presented with the “Citizen of the Month Award” at the Muncie City Council meeting Monday night.

Council president Jeff Robinson said, “Heather Williams serves as an associate director in Ball State’s Office of Community Engagement and also as the Building Better Neighborhoods program manager working directly with the city’s neighborhood associations to help build capacity and make connections with Ball State faculty, staff, and students and programs.”

In her non-profit volunteer work, Heather advocates for strong neighborhoods, safe affordable housing and sustainable living. Williams is president of the board of directors of Echo Rehab in Muncie, secretary of the Muncie Land bank and member of Pathstone Housing Corporations Advisory Board. She is a member of the 812 Coalition steering and housing committees and also serves as Task Force 2 leader for the Muncie Action Plan and is president of her own neighborhood association. She is also a contributing member of the Together DM executive and steering committees, the Web of Support steering committee, the Village Alliance, the Whitley safety committee, the Healthy Community Alliance steering committee, By5 family navigators and more.

In accepting the award, Williams said, “I just want to say that I am thankful that I have the opportunity to work with so many amazing people in organizations across the city. I couldn’t do the work that I do without all of you and you know who you are. So thank you for this. I share this honor with each of you who do this work at the neighborhood level.”
