MUNCIE, Ind. – Justin Ullom has been named Muncie Central High School’s new boys basketball coach, replacing Chandler Thompson who resigned following the 2021-22 season.

Ullom, a Muncie native, joins the Bearcats program after a successful eight-year run as the head coach at Monroe Central. Last year, the Golden Bears enjoyed an undefeated regular season and won the 2A Sectional Championship at Alexandria.

The Golden Bears also won championships at the Connersville Holiday Tournament and the Randolph County Tournament as well as the Mid-Eastern Conference regular season title before being defeated in the regional finals to finish with a 25-1 record. The historic season led the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association to honor Ullom as District 2 Coach of the Year.

“I loved my time at Monroe Central and I’ll cherish those relationships, but this is a great opportunity to be part of a legendary program at Muncie Central, and I’m eager to get started,” Ullom said.

Muncie Central has won eight state championships and has another seven semi-state appearances, the last one in 2006. Bearcats Athletic Director Jeff Holloway believes Ullom’s demeanor and leadership qualities will help him take the program in a positive direction.

“Justin has been a leader even before he became a varsity head coach eight years ago, and the qualities he possesses will help guide the culture we expect at Muncie Central,” Holloway said. “He will do what is needed to grow our program from the elementary levels up, and provide the momentum needed to get it headed upward, and we look forward to supporting him and his family in every possible way.”
