YORKTOWN, Ind.- The annual “Four for the 4th” run/walk returns to downtown Yorktown at 8 AM on the 4th of July—bigger and better than ever.  This year the Yorktown Community Schools Foundation takes over race management and is excited to welcome Thrive Credit Union as the title sponsor as they work together to raise funds to better the community, trails, parks, schools, and give away scholarships.

This year the overall male and female race champions will each win $500 in cash, and all students ages 19 and under that complete the 4-mile race will be entered for a drawing to win 2 scholarships each worth $1,000.  This year through a generous sponsorship from AIRESERV, the 444th finishers may win extra big if the official temperature on the 4th of July reaches 94º or higher.

With a bit of heat, the top male and female finisher overall times will each win $5,000, and 22 age group winners will win $1,000 each—The fastest male and female finisher for each of the following age groups: 20-24 // 25-29 // 30-34 // 35-39 // 40-44 // 45-49 // 50-54 // 55-59 // 60-64 // 65-69 // 70 and over.

Lastly, if the race day temperature reaches 94º or higher, 12 additional scholarships of $1,000 each will be given away from randomly drawn registered youth finishers ages 19 and below.  That brings the total eligible prize purse to a staggering $47,000, which is believed to be the largest prize purse ever offered for a road race in the history of the State of Indiana.

With a goal of attracting 2,500 runners and raising $75,000 for the community, registrations are now open at www.fourforthefourth.run.  The last day for a guaranteed t-shirt with each entry is Monday, June 20th.

The race will kick off at 8 AM and is always a great morning of family fun with lots of baby strollers, dog walkers, and plenty of Uncle Sam costumes.  The race will be starting and finishing this year at the new Yorktown Townhall building with a larger race village hosted by all the great sponsors and volunteers where racers and walkers will gather for awards, music, and fun after the race.  Other activities include a cardboard and duct tape boat race at 2 PM, and fireworks at dusk.
