MUNCIE, IN—Halteman Village Neighborhood Association (HVNA) urgently asks the community to help us meet our fundraising goal for Phase 2 of the Halteman Park project before our grant-matching deadline, Aug. 26. In Fall 2020, HVNA kicked off a fundraising campaign to transform a former membership-only swim club into a public park for all Muncie residents and families. The Phase 2 campaign seeks to raise $35,000 for park improvements, including play equipment, shade, and seating. If the $35,000 goal is met by Aug. 26, the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority’s CreatINg Livable Communities grant program will match with $35,000 and AARP Indiana will also contribute $5,000—resulting in a total of $75,000 for Halteman Park.

“Since the initial phase laid the foundation for creating a park and greenspace for residents, we would like to use this campaign to focus on implementing recreational and wellness opportunities for adults and seniors, in addition to adding more play amenities,” said HVNA President J.P. Hall. “It is our hope that by providing these new features it will encourage people of all ages to gather and recreate, thereby resulting in healthier outcomes and more meaningful connections within our community.”

The City of Muncie and HVNA believe this project will help to create multi-generational health, wellness and recreational opportunities for neighbors and families. “Without the city, and the Muncie Parks Department’s commitment to our efforts, this park would not be a reality,” said Hall. “We want to thank Mayor Ridenour, Superintendent of Parks Carl Malone, and George Foley for their commitment to this project. Without their support, we wouldn’t be here today. By supporting these efforts, you are encouraging the countless volunteer hours dedicated by HVNA and reassuring the city of Muncie that this place, and this type of project, matters to the people.”

The Halteman Park Project began as a planning partnership with the Department of Landscape Architecture at Ball State University. Phase 1 fundraising kicked off in Fall 2020 and successfully met its grant-matching goal with IHCDA and local grant funders, resulting in the installation of a pavilion, play equipment, and landscaping. A splash pad, walking/jogging trail and pickleball courts were added thanks to additional support from neighborhood ARP funds, state EDIT funds and the City of Muncie (including MRC and Parks Dept).

HVNA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization representing property owners and current residents of Halteman Village, Norwood-Hall, Norwood and Vienna Woods neighborhoods within the City of Muncie. HVNA’s efforts are primarily focused on development and revitalization efforts to improve the quality of life/place for our residents and the Muncie community as a whole.
