YORKTOWN, IN—When you’re balancing multiple sports, clubs and other activities, you have to have a system in place to keep everything prioritized and scheduled. Yorktown High School senior Mason Moulton has figured out a system that works best for him. At the beginning of each week, he sets up a spreadsheet to best plan his schedule – often hour by hour.

“Time management is the big thing,” he said. “And just trying to balance everything and have time to do my best at everything I do.”

Moulton stays busy as a member of the football, basketball and track and field teams at Yorktown High School. He’s also the president of the National Honors Society, student leader in his school’s chapter of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, a member of government club and captain of the math academic team.

“I love math,” Moulton said. “My dad’s a math teacher here, so I get it from him.”

His sports involvement also allows him to interact with the community. All three sports offer youth camps that Moulton helps run and has really enjoyed.

“That’s one of the bright spots of my year when I get to spend time with the youth,” he said.

Looking out for those coming up behind him is important to Moulton. He pointed out that someone is always watching and paying attention to everyone. As such, he does his best to lead by example and be a good role model to those who are watching him. As an athlete, he recognizes he is often more visible to others.

“I try to find ways to make an impact on the world and my community in any way I can,” Moulton said. “It’s super impactful to lead by example and help others and, hopefully, create other leaders.”

In fact, that’s some of his best advice for younger students. He said each grade of students influences both students around them and those coming up behind them.

“You’re always making a difference, even with your friends,” Moulton said. “When they see you doing something right or acting the right way…then they’ll be more inclined to conform to that. It’s like this big chain of events that…benefits the community and the world as a whole.”

Moulton has also been developing a platform for his faith. He is a proud student leader in FCA at Yorktown and said he is a devout Christian. He’s been able to share messages of faith both with his football teammates and other members of FCA.

“It’s been great to grow spiritually and share that message with others,” he said. “That’s the most important thing in my life.”

With that in mind, Moulton is planning his future. Currently, Hillsdale College is his number one college choice. He plans to major in philosophy and religion.

“I would love after college to go to seminary and hopefully have a pastoral position at some point,” Moulton said. “That’s something I feel called to and would love to do.”
