MUNCIE, IN– Indiana Michigan Power’s work to enhance reliability in the Muncie area will temporarily affect traffic patterns near Ball State University beginning Monday, April 1.

Motorists should be aware of a road closing affecting Riverside Avenue and lane closures on Tillotson Avenue. Specifically:

  • Riverside will be closed between Tillotson and Briar Road. The detour will use Petty, Warwick and Briar roads.
  • Tillotson will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Riverside and West Petty Road.

These road restrictions are expected to continue through the month of April.

I&M understands this project, which began in early March, may cause traffic delays. We appreciate the patience of our Muncie customers. I&M will continue to provide updates ahead of changes in traffic control plans.

The work involves rebuilding a 1-mile underground power line between University Avenue and York Prairie Creek, just south of Euclid Avenue. Crews expect to complete this work by late summer, weather permitting.

These upgrades are part of the Tillotson Avenue Transmission Line Project, which includes upgrading 4 miles of above- and below-ground power lines in northwest Muncie to address the numerous extended power outages to area customers in recent years. Modernizing aging power poles and wires reduces the likelihood future outages and improves the area’s electric reliability.
