MUNCIE, IN – Mayor Dan Ridenour is pleased to announce that the city has gained site control of the former Concannon’s Bakery property located on Walnut Street in downtown Muncie. This marks an important step forward in ensuring that the development of the property reflects the interests and needs of the community. This decision comes after a period of significant concern from the city and citizens regarding the potential private sale of the property.

Recognizing the importance of preserving the character of downtown Muncie and aligning development with community values, the Muncie Redevelopment Commission (MRC) took action to secure the site when the property became available. Although the initial efforts of the MRC to acquire the property were unsuccessful, a deal between the property’s seller and the proposed buyer has now been terminated, and all BZA applications related to the development have been officially withdrawn.

With the city now in control of the site, Muncie officials are committed to shaping a development strategy that aligns with the goals of the downtown corridor. The city plans to partner with local stakeholders to create a vision that enhances the vitality of the area while serving the best interests of residents and visitors alike.

“Securing site control of this property is a crucial step in ensuring that any future development contributes to the long-term success and vibrancy of our downtown,” said Mayor Dan Ridenour. “We are excited about the potential this site holds and look forward to working with the community to create a development plan that reflects Muncie’s vision for the future.”

The City of Muncie is committed to continuing to engage with residents, local businesses, and other stakeholders to ensure that any future development aligns with the needs of the community and supports the ongoing revitalization of downtown Muncie.
