Muncie, IN — 05.02.2025 — The City of Muncie is excited to announce the approval of three Designated Outdoor Refreshment Areas (DORAs) by the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission, creating vibrant spaces for residents and visitors to enjoy beverages responsibly while exploring local businesses. Thanks to the efforts of Councilwomen Ro Selvey and Sara Gullion authoring Ord. 26-24, the DORAs are set to go into effect in early to mid-summer, enhancing the city’s downtown experience.
The approved DORAs include the following zones and businesses:
DORAs provide designated boundaries where patrons can purchase alcoholic beverages from participating establishments and enjoy them outdoors within the marked area. This initiative aims to support local businesses, foster community engagement, and promote a lively downtown atmosphere.
To ensure a smooth rollout of the DORAs, the city will host informational sessions for participating businesses and the public. These sessions will cover operational guidelines, safety protocols, and the benefits of the DORAs. Dates and details for these sessions will be announced soon.
“The implementation of DORAs is a significant step forward for Muncie’s downtown revitalization,” said Muncie Mayor Dan Ridenour. “We’re committed to creating a vibrant, welcoming environment for residents and visitors while supporting our local businesses.”
City officials are working to finalize preparations. The DORAs will feature clear signage and safety measures to ensure compliance and enhance the overall experience. Additional details, including maps of the designated areas and a list of participating businesses, can be found on the city’s website and social media outlets.
