MUNCIE, IN—Mark your calendars and bring your appetite. The Soup Kitchen of Muncie invites the community to its first Pasta for a Purpose Spaghetti Supper Fundraiser on Thursday, May 22, 2025, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Heartland Hall (North), inside the Delaware County Fairgrounds.
This family-friendly evening will feature a hearty spaghetti dinner, live music, and a silent auction—all to benefit a vital local cause. Guests can choose to dine in or carry out, with proceeds going directly toward the Soup Kitchen’s mission of feeding individuals and families in need throughout Muncie and Delaware County.
While the Soup Kitchen has welcomed new leadership, including Executive Director Kristina Houk, its mission remains unchanged—to meet the growing demand for meals and compassion in our community.
“This past year marked the highest number of meals served in our 30-year history,” said Dottie Kreps, Board President of the Soup Kitchen of Muncie. “Each guest who comes through our doors receives a hot meal and a sack lunch. We also deliver meals daily to the YWCA and multiple times a week to the Recovery Café. In 2024 alone, we served more than 90,000 meals.”
The event comes at a time of increasing need. Muncie and Delaware County face the second-highest poverty levels in Indiana—with 23% of adults and 32% of children living below the poverty line. According to Feeding America, more than 20% of children in Delaware County live with food insecurity, and Muncie has been identified as a food desert, limiting residents’ access to fresh, healthy food.
“We are open every day to try to ease the burden of those facing hunger or food insecurity,” said Kristina Houk, Executive Director. “Soup kitchens play a vital role by reducing the stress and energy spent on finding food, allowing individuals to focus on other aspects of life—like job searching, education, or family care.”
“The Soup Kitchen is Fighting Hunger, Feeding Hope,” Kreps added. “We truly believe we can bring a bit of hope to everyone who comes to eat at the Kitchen. It’s not just about food—it’s about community and connection.”
