MUNCIE, IN – The Muncie-Delaware County Senior Center received a $5,000 grant from the Glick Community Relief Fund, a grant program of Glick Philanthropies that supports local nonprofit organizations to increase community members’ access to basic needs. The grant was one of 107 totaling $770,000 to organizations supporting communities across 12 states where Gene B. Glick Company properties are located.
The Glick Community Relief Fund focuses on increasing healthy food access, expanding accessible transportation, connecting community members to utility assistance, and prioritizing mental health support. This grant was one of 66 directed to Indiana-based organizations.
“Glick Philanthropies is committed to offering support to nonprofit organizations that are supporting our most vulnerable community members in accessing their basic needs,” said Ben Grande, Director of Philanthropy at Glick Philanthropies. “The efforts of these organizations are especially critical now as many of our neighbors will likely lose access to basic needs-related supports they rely on due to government funding cuts. Our work with the Glick Community Relief Fund allows us to help 107 organizations that are making meaningful contributions to communities, families, and individuals across the country.”
The Muncie-Delaware County Senior Center has been supporting senior citizens in the Muncie-Delaware County community since 1980. With the additional support from Glick Philanthropies, the Center will be able to offer a welcoming lunch location for seniors 60 and above each weekday. In 2021, Delaware County had a food insecurity rate of 13.6%, affecting 15,270 people. This was higher than both the national average (6.6%) and the state average (10.7%) for food insecurity.
“This grant from Glick Philanthropies means that our older generation, who face incredible odds for food insecurity, will continue to have a welcoming space to eat, socialize, and thrive in their community.” This aligns with Glick Philanthropies’ mission to build equitable communities and support basic needs, including food access, for vulnerable populations like seniors,” said Julie Meares, executive director of the Muncie Delaware County Senior Center. “The Muncie-Delaware County Senior Center is thrilled to be recognized as a recipient, and these funds will help to continue our mission to enhance the quality of life for seniors (55+) and Veterans of all ages and have a positive impact in Delaware County, Indiana, and the surrounding areas.”
2025 marks the ninth year that Glick Philanthropies has administered its property-nominated grant program. Through this initiative, over $5.5 million has been awarded to nearly 300 nonprofit organizations in communities where Gene B. Glick Company properties are located. This is the first year that the Muncie Delaware County Senior Center has been a Glick Community Relief Fund grant recipient.
