MUNCIE, IN – The City of Muncie is proud to announce that it has been awarded $6.75 million in READI 2.0 funding to support transformative development in the city’s core, including new downtown housing and the creation of a signature gateway experience.

The funding, when combined with the over $10 million in city infrastructure investment will be used to advance two major initiatives, the Muncie Central City Housing Project which includes 34 new homes in the Old West End neighborhood and the Highpoint Station/Downtown Gateway; a 4 story multi-use building featuring a public greenspace and gateway art installation.

Together, these developments will bring nearly 100 new residential units, new retail and commercial space, and a distinctive community gathering area.

The announcement was made Monday, October 28, 2025, during a joint event with Mayor Dan Ridenour, representatives from the Muncie Land Bank, project developers, and Governor Mike Braun, who highlighted Muncie’s commitment to strategic growth and community revitalization.

“This is another important step in Muncie’s continued downtown transformation,” said Mayor Dan Ridenour. “READI funding allows us to not only build new housing and commercial opportunities but to create public spaces and gateways that make downtown welcoming, and vibrant. These are the types of projects that strengthen neighborhoods, attract residents, and drive long-term investment.”

The Muncie Central City Housing Project and Highpoint Station Gateway represent ongoing local and regional momentum for housing, talent attraction, and urban revitalization—key goals of the East Central Indiana READI initiative.

Construction and development phases are expected to begin in 2026 with additional project details released in the coming months.
