MUNCIE, IN—A Spring tradition continues at the David Owsley Museum of Art (DOMA) as Art in Bloom returns May 15-17 with floral interpretations inspired by works from the museum’s collection.
The weekend begins with a free public Preview Party from 5–7 p.m. Friday, May 15, offering guests a first look at the floral arrangements. The reception will feature jazz by the Mark Buselli Trio, hors d’oeuvres, and a cash bar. The museum will then offer extended public hours from 1–5 p.m. Saturday, May 16, and Sunday, May 17, with no admission fee.
DOMA is located at 2021 W. Riverside Ave. in Muncie, on the campus of Ball State University. Parking is available at no charge in non-metered spaces on Campus Drive along the Old Quad during Art in Bloomevents; visitors should follow all posted parking signs.
Art in Bloom invites regional floral designers to create arrangements inspired by significant works of art from DOMA’s collection. Throughout the weekend, visitors may view the floral interpretations, enjoy live music, participate in hands-on activities, and vote for their favorite arrangement. The museum will announce the People’s Choice Award on Monday, May 18, on Facebook and Instagram; follow @DOMAatBSU for the announcement and other Art in Bloom updates.
This year’s Art in Bloom is being held in honor of the late David T. Owsley, HHD ’05, the museum’s generous namesake.
“We dedicate this year’s Art in Bloom to the memory of our main benefactor, David T. Owsley,” said Dr. Robert La France, DOMA’s director. “All the featured works of art are gifts from David, who enriched the collection greatly. As always, admission is free, and we are open to our entire community.”
Family-friendly activities during the weekend include gallery tours, live music, paper flower-making workshops, crafts, and coloring pages. A special musical performance by New York pianist Mikael Darmanie in honor of his friend David Owsley will take place at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 17, in the Sculpture Court.
Art in Bloom also provides visitors an opportunity to see DOMA’s Spring special exhibition, Nora Krug: Belonging, organized by the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, Mass. The exhibition closes at DOMA on June 13.
