MUNCIE, IN— Muncie Central Athletic Director Jeff Holloway will be a busy man for the next several weeks as he leads the search for new head coaches for the school’s football and boys basketball teams. The two men in those positions, Kyle Padgett and Justin Ullom, both resigned this week.
Both coaches joined MCHS a couple months apart in 2022, Padgett coming from Centerville High and Ullom from Monroe Central. Padgett has also been part of Central’s teaching staff and will continue as a physical education instructor through the end of the school year. Ullom runs his own business as a full-time occupation.
Padgett is leaving Central to become the Strength and Conditioning Coordinator and Running backs Coach at Bishop Chatard High School in Indianapolis, which will allow him to have more time available for his growing family. In his three years as Central’s head coach, he is most proud of his players’ improved academic success, including 13 players named Academic All State. He’s also thrilled to have sent 11 players on to football careers in college.
“The past three years at Muncie Central have been among the best of my life,” Padgett said. “I will be forever grateful for the people I have met and the experiences we have shared. I want to thank my staff, players and parents for all the effort that was put in to build this culture into what it is today. We raised the standard and built a strong foundation for the future.”
Ullom has not announced any future coaching plans, but expects to continue running his business and staying connected to the Muncie community.
MCHS Principal Chris Walker thanked both coaches for the time they’ve spent mentoring the players in their programs, providing them with high personal values as well as athletic improvement.
