Ball State Football Returns to WLBC Radio; Cardinals & Woof Boom Lineup to Include Weekly Podcast
By Ball State Athletics—
MUNCIE, IN—Renewing and expanding a broadcast relationship that spans decades in East Central Indiana, Ball State Athletics and Peak Sports Management have announced a new, three-year agreement with Woof Boom Radio that will keep Cardinals sports broadcasts on WLBC and WMUN Radio.
The biggest and most immediate impact is the return of Ball State football games to WLBC Radio (104.1 HD1), whose signal has a broad reach into the Indianapolis and Fort Wayne regions, key Indiana markets for Cardinals fans and Ball State alums. WLBC has been the radio home to Ball State football for generations, though WMUN (92.5 FM and 1340 AM) carried Cardinals football the past two years.
WMUN remains the radio home to Ball State men’s and women’s basketball games, and will add a live, weekly midday show, “This Week in Ball State Sports.” Featuring the Voice of the Cardinals Mick Tidrow as its host, the half-hour show continues a popular podcast that originated in the Fall of 2023. “This Week in Ball State Sports” will continue to drop in podcast format each week. Specific day and time for “This Week in Ball State Sports” will be announced separately.
“What Ball State means to the community aligns very much with what we do at Woof Boom,” said Woof Boom Radio President J Chapman. “We’ve had a 70-year relationship broadcasting football and basketball for Ball State, and what they mean for our community is everything to us. Our community-minded missions align and it makes a great win-win for both of us. Additionally, Peak has come in with an organization that is very engaged with making Ball State grow. And that’s where we are, too.”
“We’re thrilled to deliver our football games to a broader reach of listeners over the FM dial,” said Ball State Director of Athletics Jeff Mitchell. “Partnering with Woof Boom to share the strengths of both stations is a great asset for our teams and to our alumni, friends, and fans who can hear games in the car, in the office, tailgating or from the comforts of their home. Also, expanding our offerings to include a weekly midday live show elevates our local programming to share our message with the Muncie community.”
Tidrow added, “This agreement further strengthens everyone’s goal of building great community in Muncie and the state of Indiana. It’s exciting to have all radio and streaming options flow through WLBC and WMUN. Having our podcast expand into a weekly on-air, standalone show on WMUN is an exciting addition.”
“For our radio stations to be able to use this longstanding relationship to even better connect with the community is a great privilege and value for everyone involved,” said Steve Lindell, Director of Operations at Woof Boom. “We love that we can help connect families and have great fun, right in our backyard, at Ball State’s many sporting events.”
Football broadcasts on WLBC begin Saturday, August 30, when the Cardinals face Purdue in West Lafayette at noon. Ball State pre- and postgame shows will air on WMUN, beginning one hour prior to game time. Action swings to WLBC for kickoff, for each of 11 college football Saturdays and the Cardinals’ lone midweek game on Wednesday, Nov. 5. Tidrow and former Cardinals offensive lineman Chris Radican call the action through the 2025 season.
Another pregame staple, “Charlietown Live!,” continues to air on WMUN prior to each Ball State home game. WMUN sports personality Mark Foerster begins the day of coverage from Scheumann Scheumann tailgate lots for 60 minutes of Cardinals football talk before Tidrow assumes control in the pregame show.
Woof Boom retains exclusive streaming rights for all Ball State sports broadcasts. Cardinals games can be heard on BallStateSports.com, the Ball State Sports mobile app and apps from WLBC and WMUN. Select games will also be available via Sirius XM Radio.
