MUNCIE, IN—High school is changing in Indiana. Students must now choose among three readiness seals – Enrollment, Employment or Enlistment & Service – and fulfill that seal’s requirements in order to graduate, beginning with the class of 2029.
Many students are expected to focus on an Employment seal, which makes the Muncie Area Career Center (MACC) the perfect place to prepare them for life after school. On Thursday, November 6, prospective students can get a firsthand look at the MACC’s 15 different programs during the school’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) Open House from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. They can meet instructors; talk to current students; tour classrooms and labs; and participate in special hands-on activities.
“We have some fabulous programs that give students a big leg up on the competition when they start applying for real jobs after graduation,” MACC Director Caleb Beasley said. “We also have a lot of programs for students looking to pursue an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree instead of going right into the workforce. Those students can get industry credentials or earn college credits, which can save them a substantial amount on tuition.”
The MACC offers the following CTE programs:
- Automotive Service
- Carpentry
- Cosmetology
- Criminal Justice
- Dental
- Digital Design
- Early Childhood Education
- Electrical Technology
- EMT
- Fire & Rescue
- Health Science Pre-Nursing
- HVAC
- Industrial Maintenance
- Software Development
- Welding
All MACC programs are open to juniors and seniors from partner high schools in Delaware, Blackford and Randolph counties. Students should apply during their sophomore or junior years.
“Our students leave the MACC well prepared to take their next steps,” Beasley said, “They have completed a rigorous course of study, gained valuable hands-on skills and have a head start on college credits. Many have also attained industry certifications and completed work experiences that put them well ahead of many of their peers.”
The Muncie Area Career Center is located at 4301 S. Cowan Road in Muncie. Visitors are encouraged to park near the south end of the building, which also houses the Muncie Community Schools administrative offices. Enter through Door 2.
