He began teaching for Muncie Community Schools in 1972 at Mckinley Junior High School.  During his time as an educator, John was an inspiration to all who knew him. Burris Laboratory School, Cowan Community Schools, Daleville Community Schools, Inspire Academy, Liberty-Perry Community Schools, Muncie Community Schools, Wes-Del Community Schools and Yorktown Community Schools were eight of 39 school corporations and charter schools in Indiana selected during a second round of grants to help schools implement plans to meet the complex academic, college, career, and social and emotional counseling needs of their students. Through the program, 154 students were able to earn an associate degree in less than one year’s time. Ivy Tech’s ASAP program provides at-risk high school students facing life and family issues that prevent them from completing a degree, the opportunity to earn a marketable and transferable associate degree on a full-time basis in just 11 months.
