Muncie, IN—Anna Allen of Yorktown, Indiana, received The Provost’s Prize for Outstanding Scholarly Work during Ball State University’s Commencement on May 5. “My most significant emotion is sheer gratitude,” she said. “I have worked with so many amazing faculty and students at this university and would not have had the research experience and opportunities had it not been for those who had been willing to constantly and patiently support me.” Allen was a psychological science major and graduated summa cum laude. The honor includes a $15,000 grant to support the school district, high school, and teacher’s classroom. Finalists for the award were Emily Shepherd, a math and computer science teacher at Burris Laboratory School, and Candace Smithson, a science teacher at Cowan High School. By: Julie Tuttle Davis— Muncie, Ind. – Students at the Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics, and Humanities are currently involved in May Term, a unique two-week program that happens at the conclusion of every spring semester. May Term is a graduation requirement for Academy students and provides them with opportunities to take in-depth courses on special subjects, travel, and participation in internships. Each year brings new courses and experiences.
