MCS to Offer English Classes for Parents

By: Ana Pichardo— Muncie Community Schools, in partnership with Ball State University, will offer an English class for parents of students whose first language is not English (English as a Second Language, EL). The class will be led by two Ball State instructors of English as a Second Language, and will be held on Tuesdays from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, beginning January 12 – March 15, 2016 in the Mitchell Elementary library. It is part of the mission of the Boys & Girls Club to serve more teens, more often. This mutually beneficial initiative is focused on academic success and mentoring. One of the best ways to compare the relative fiscal health of an organization is the bond rating. Robert P. Bell Teacher Creativity Grants Awarded to Local Teachers

Bell grants totaling $5,139 have been awarded to local teachers for the first grant cycle of the 2015-2016 academic year. It is estimated that over 1,771 Delaware County students will benefit from these grants. Julie Rinker Bailey, Northside Middle School, was awarded $211 for middle school English students to establish the connection between emotions and writing through use of emoticons and text speak drawings on personalized whiteboards.
