Muncie, IN—When two pillars of a community come together, it can lead to amazingly positive results.

The Ball State athletics department and the YMCA of Muncie have collaborated to create a unique community partnership and the results will be based around a simple goal: providing enhanced learning and athletic experiences for Delaware County’s youth displaying an example to all that good things are happening in our community.

Both the Y and Ball State know that youth sports programs teach the fundamental skills of the game and increase self-confidence along the way, said YMCA of Muncie President/CEO Chad Zaucha. “Valuable life lessons are learned through participation in sports programs including teamwork, good sportsmanship, leadership, and character building.  We are excited to work alongside BSU athletics to collectively develop our youth, deepen our impact and strengthen our community.”

Ball State Athletics will support the YMCA via sponsorship of the organization’s youth football and basketball programs which will now be called “Junior Cardinals”. The Cardinals logo will be featured on participant shirts and Ball State Athletics will be providing basketballs and footballs. In addition, Ball State coaches will take part in coaching clinics to aid in the education of YMCA coaches while Ball State student-athletes will interact with YMCA families at various events.

“This is the latest example of a Delaware County institution and Ball State collaborating to provide positivity for our community,” said Ball State President Geoff Mearns. “When the campus and community work together it reinforces that we are truly better together.”

Ball State Athletic Director, Mark Sandy, added: “We are proud to partner with the Y, support youth sports and welcome all of the Y families to our beautiful venues on the Ball State campus.”

The YMCA will support Ball State Athletics by providing promotional opportunities, signage on site, purchasing tickets and pushing forward the Cardinal Kids Club. The entitlement naming the football and basketball programs “Junior Cardinals” is also a key element.

Both organizations plan to highlight the partnership on their respective web sites, social media accounts and in-venues.
