Muncie, IN- The blighted building which was once known as the “Red Carpet Inn” on South Madison is set for demolition. The current owner is out of state, and has been unresponsive to the unsafe building authority. Community Development, the Building Commissioners Office and Mayor Dan Ridenour have moved forward with plans for demolition.

Complete Demolition Services out of Louisville Kentucky will complete demolition of the building, at a total cost of $289,400. One of the major obstacles Complete Demolition Services faces, is asbestos removal, estimated to cost $97,400; with $192,000 taking up the remainder of demolition expense. The initial funds for demolition will come from the Unsafe Building Fund, the Mayor’s EDIT Fund, and the Community Development Block Grant.

Asbestos abatement is scheduled to begin on June 22, and is predicted to take 1 month. Demolition is slated to begin sometime in late July or early August, with completion scheduled for some time in October.

“The demolition of this property will help keep our community safe and clean,” said Ridenour.  “This project has been a team effort, and I am proud of the hard work invested. I am positive this will make a large difference on the South Side of Muncie.”
