Muncie, IN—A special edition of First Thursday, ArtsWalk will feature autumnal festivities and a celebration of arts, culture and KINDNESS in Muncie. Mask Up as you watch and learn from local artists as they create amazing chalk art. Enter the pumpkin carving contest and explore the DWNTWN community while searching for kindness rocks.
NEW THIS YEAR: CHALK IT UP TO KINDNESS
Working with Muncie Arts & Culture Council, DWNTWN will curate 10 artists to create chalk art using “Kindness” as the primary theme. Spaced out in parking lots along Charles and Walnut Streets, these artists will create socially distanced pieces for viewing during the day and during ArtsWalk hours. Vote for the People’s Choice award of $100 by your favorite artist.
DWNTWN businesses and the community are encouraged to write notes of kindness, hope and encouragement in chalk on the DWNTWN sidewalks, primarily on Charles, Adams, Walnut and Main Streets, during the day of ArtsWalk and throughout the evening. Please BYOC (Bring your own chalk), wear your mask and socially distance when creating or viewing these messages of kindness, hope and encouragement.
Also, be sure to participate in our kindness rock hunt. Community members are encouraged to create their own painted kindness rocks at home and then bring them downtown to be found the night of ArtsWalk. Post your kindness rock and ArtsWalk photos with the hashtag #DWNTWNRocks to share your words or images of kindness with everyone.
Special DWNTWN rocks will be placed throughout the area and will be redeemable for discounts or gift cards at a variety of Downtown businesses. There will be one very special rock out there that will be worth $100 grand prize!
Wear your brightest and happiest ensembles this night and bring your biggest smiles under those (decorated, yes, let’s do this too!) masks. We could all use a little color right now!
South Madison Cruisers will have a Classic Car Cruise In at the corner of Charles and Walnut St.
