MUNCIE, Ind.—The City of Muncie is pleased to announce the ribbon cutting ceremony for the White River Lofts project on Thursday, November 4th at 4:00 p.m. at the White River Lofts. The event runs until 8:00 that night and will include opportunities to tour the apartments and to inquire about leasing options.

Located at 400 West Washington Street, the new development features 55 luxury apartments, and 2,000 square feet of commercial space. Amenities include: one & two-bedroom plans, quartz countertops, stainless appliances, washer/dryers in each unit, roof-top green space, and guest lobby with kitchenette and fireplace. Leasing inquiries are currently being accepted and 27% of the project is already leased. For more information, visit whiteriverlofts.com.

The project is the first in the White River Canal District. The White River Canal District is the result of collaborative efforts and strategic partnerships including the City of Muncie, Muncie Downtown Development, Next Muncie, Canal District Holdings, Inc., and Gillette General Contract. The “Central City” has been chosen as the focus of Next Muncie as both the hub of activity and catalyst for meaningful city transformation. The Central City area includes Muncie’s highest concentration of place, economic, cultural and educational assets, including thriving institutions and key areas ripe with opportunity.

“This is the first step of activating one of Muncie’s best natural resources, the White River, in downtown. The City is investing in adjacent property to build a Riverwalk and Community Gathering space as our part of the project. We are excited to see this project moving toward completion,” said Mayor Dan Ridenour.

The $9 million development, located in a Federal Opportunity Zone, will promote continued investment in the Canal District and will provide an attractive housing option for Muncie’s workforce. Major employers such as Ball State University, IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie Power Products, and Accutech Systems have been vocal supporters of the project, advocating that quality housing options help them recruit and retain talent.
