MUNCIE, IN– Ball State University’s College of Fine Arts is pleased to announce the upcoming performance of the renowned Thalea String Quartet as part of the 2023-2024 Arts Alive series April 9, 2024, at Sursa Hall. The performance, which is free and open to the public, is set to begin at 7:30 p.m.
The Thalea String Quartet, recipient of the 2021 Ann Divine Educator Award from the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, has gained recognition for its innovative approach to education and community engagement, with a specific focus on celebrating diverse musical traditions from around the world.
Having graced prestigious venues across North America, Europe, and China, the Quartet has left an indelible mark on the chamber music scene, believing that music serves as a powerful tool to build community and human connection. Notable performances include appearances at the Kennedy Center, Massey Hall, and Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall.
As part of their two-day residency at Ball State, the performers will also conduct a free and open masterclass from 11 a.m.-12:50 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, in Hahn Hall. This unique opportunity allows students and the community to engage with the quartet and gain insights into its artistic process.

Arts Alive aims to make arts and entertainment more accessible to students and the surrounding community. The series, previously centered around the School of Music, recently expanded for the 2023-2024 season to include events from Ball State’s David Owsley Museum of Art, the School of Art, and the Department of Theatre and Dance.
