MUNCIE, IN — While every day is an opportunity to show gratitude to those who serve and protect our nation, some days on the calendar are set aside specifically to honor them. Patriot Day is one of those days—a time to remember and support the individuals in the United States who dedicate their lives, careers, and, in some cases, make the ultimate sacrifice to preserve our freedom.
The Flags of Honor display will be available to experience From September 4 through September 11 at Minnetrista. To sponsor a ribbon, visit the tent at Minnetrista or call 765-282-4848.
In the wake of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, President George W. Bush proclaimed Friday, September 14, 2001, as a National Day of Prayer and Remembrance for the victims. Since then, September 11th has been officially designated as Patriot Day by the U.S. House of Representatives and recognized by every President as a National Day of Prayer and Remembrance.
Since 2012, the Exchange Club of Muncie and Minnetrista Museum & Gardens have partnered to host the Flags of Honor display as a tribute to those who serve and protect us. This moving annual event concludes on Patriot Day.
Each year, 1,000 American flags are placed on the front lawn of Minnetrista, standing as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by military members, first responders, and their families—both in the past and every day. The display runs for one week and concludes with a dedication and closing ceremony on September 11.
This year, the Closing Ceremony will take place on Thursday, September 11, beginning at 6:00 p.m. The program will feature a concert by America’s Hometown Band and will be held rain or shine—outdoors if weather permits, or indoors if needed. The community is warmly invited to attend and join in honoring those who give so much, yet ask for so little in return.
