MUNCIE, IN — Muncie Action Plan (MAP), in collaboration with Shafer Leadership Academy, Ball State University’s Bowen Center for Public Affairs, 8twelve Coalition, Ball State University’s Office of Community Engagement, and Habitat for Humanity, would like to announce that applications are now open for the third cohort of CenterPoint Scholars. The year-long leadership academy is designed to cultivate a dedicated group of resident leaders who are passionate about improving their neighborhoods.
This next session kicks off at the March 2026 I.D.E.A. Conference and includes monthly meetings held on the third Tuesday of every month through February 2027. Scholars will also attend a weekend retreat in April, which provides an opportunity to connect their interest in neighborhood work to their own personal WHY. Throughout 2026-2027 they will participate in a structured curriculum emphasizing listening, action, implementation, and celebration, where they will gain essential skills in advocacy, engagement, and project management.
CenterPoint Scholars participate in hands-on learning, skill-building activities, and networking opportunities. These leaders will be equipped to advocate for change and inspire collective action for years to come by learning to lead with confidence in their neighborhoods. In addition, the program fosters collaboration among leaders from diverse neighborhoods, amplifying community-driven advocacy and encouraging the sharing of innovative ideas. This inclusive approach strengthens the bonds between neighborhoods and enhances collective efforts to address local challenges.
If you are interested in learning more about neighborhood engagement and grassroots advocacy, please apply today! The application process is open through January 31st. The third cohort of CenterPoint Scholars will be selected mid-February and announced at the 11th annual I.D.E.A. conference on March 7th.
Thanks to a generous grant from CenterPoint Energy and financial support from the City of Muncie, this groundbreaking initiative will continue to empower community leaders and foster meaningful change in Muncie’s vibrant neighborhoods.
