MUNCIE, IN—Once again expanding a broadcast relationship that spans decades in East Central Indiana, Ball State Athletics has announced a new radio agreement with Woof Boom Radio that will add Cardinals baseball to the WMUN Radio lineup.
Beginning Friday when the Cardinals open their Mid-American Conference schedule with the first game of a home series against Central Michigan, WMUN (92.5 FM and 1340 AM) will carry 26 games on its air, reflecting over half of Ball State’s remaining games. Coverage will include all 23 Ball State home games, plus road games at Indiana, Butler and Purdue. Play-by-play will be shared between WMUN Sports Director Kurt Darling, Woof Boom sports personality Mark Foerster and the Voice of the Cardinals, Mick Tidrow. A rotation of analysts includes Jim Leisure, Rob Fisher and Roen Elbert. Production and broadcast assistance will be provided by Ball State Sports Link students.
“This local partnership with Woof Boom Radio continues to expand and is an example of the network’s commitment to our community as we promote Ball State Athletics as Muncie’s team,” said Director of Athletics Jeff Mitchell. “We are thrilled for WMUN to broadcast our home baseball games and broaden the reach of our outstanding baseball program that competes for a Mid-American Conference championship year after year.”
Financial backing as underwriting sponsors for the 26-game deal comes from The Shebek Family and Automatic Pool Covers, Inc. Shebek, notably, is a Ball State baseball alum who recently helped fund a series of upgrades for the Cardinals’ Shebek Stadium.
“Coach Maloney has been sending Cardinals to the Majors for a long time and we’re ecstatic to tell the story,” said Woof Boom President J Chapman. “It’s great to be associated with a big-time program like Ball State Cardinal Baseball. Woof Boom Radio loves telling great stories, and there is none better than broadcasting the winning Ball State baseball program.”
“We are excited to have WMUN broadcast our home games,” said longtime Ball State coach Rich Maloney who has recently helped broker deals for a new videoboard and ongoing clubhouse construction at the home ballpark. “This is a big step in growing our program. Thanks to J Chapman, Jeff Mitchell, Mike Shebek and others who pulled this off for Ball State baseball.”
After season-opening road trips in Florida, South Carolina and Hawaii, the Cardinals return to Muncie for their home opener – broadcast on WMUN – on Friday, March 6, at 2 p.m., against Central Michigan.
