MUNCIE, IN—Thousands of children have experienced their first ballet with Muncie Ballet Studio (MBS). Each year, more than 1500 schoolchildren attend matinee performances as an introduction to classical dance, music, and theater. Director Lisa Love adapts action-packed, dramatic stories, using colorful costumes, props, and dances to create a vivid backdrop for familiar tales. The Children’s Nutcracker is staged every winter holiday, and each spring features a new ballet based on a classic story, accompanied by an original compilation of classical music.
Founded in June 1991 as a 501(c)(3), Muncie Ballet Studio aims to promote classical dance and music. Children have been dancing with MBS for 35 years. By having children perform for children, many barriers to classical dance and music are eliminated. The shared experience between performers and young audience members fosters keen interest and receptiveness among children. MBS develops audiences for today and supporters for tomorrow.
Whether a child attends a weekly class or a more rigorous class schedule, all students are invited to participate in two professionally produced productions each year.
In addition to performing, the studio has hosted several master classes with professional ballet guests and has recently participated in the Youth American Grand Prix (YAGP), receiving excellent marks. Previous collaborations have included Boys & Girls Club, Ross Community Center, Motivate our Minds, Muncie Public Library, New Castle Henry County Public Library, and Henry County YMCA
