MUNCIE, IN— Andrea Streaty and Morgan Leckie have been selected as Muncie Community Schools’ 2025-26 Teachers of the Year, respectively, for primary and secondary grades. Director of Public Education and CEO Dr. Chuck Reynolds presented each with awards during MCS’ “welcome back” staff event today at Muncie Central High School.
Streaty is a third grade teacher at Longfellow Elementary School who serves as the grade level team lead. She is also the student council sponsor and teaches in the school’s successful afterschool STEM club.
“Andrea’s enthusiasm and creativity engages even the most challenging students,” Longfellow Principal Gerry Moore said. “She is always developing a wide variety of activities that go well beyond the rigorous curriculum, and the high standards she sets in her classroom are evident in the results.”
Leckie teaches English and Creative Writing at Muncie Central, working with students of all abilities, up to and including Advanced Placement students. She also sponsors the freshman class; oversees the school’s writing lab; and leads the school’s Artificial Intelligence efforts.
“Morgan connects extremely well with all our kids to find what motivates them, building on their writing and critical thinking skills,” Muncie Central Principal Chris Walker said. “She is always pushing students to reach their full potential, and does an incredible job of preparing them for college or whatever else comes after high school.”
Both Streaty and Leckie received plaques and $1,000 stipends for being selected as district teachers of the year. Other MCS building honorees recognized today include:

- Tiara Taylor – East Washington Academy
- Tierra Love – South View Elementary
- Jay Coles – Northside Middle School
- Abigail Simpson – Southside Middle School
- Jeff Lacy – Muncie Area Career Center
