MUNCIE, IN —The City of Muncie is updating the City of Muncie’s 5-year Parks and Recreation Master Plan. The plan will establish a long-range guide for the vision, direction, and management of the City of Muncie’s parks and recreation system, including its operations & maintenance, programming, staffing, and future investment needs.
Residents are invited to attend one of two community open houses to share their ideas and feedback related to parks and open spaces in Muncie.
The City of Muncie’s Park Department operates and manages more than thirty unique parks and greenspaces that support the health and well-being of nearby residents and park users. Each park offers a unique character with various amenities ranging from playgrounds, sports fields, splash pads, public art, and aquatic facilities.
The first public open house will be held on Monday, September 28, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Minnetrista Museum & Gardens. The second public open house will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Maring-Hunt Library. Representatives from the City and the consulting design firm Rundell Ernstberger Associates will be present to provide information about the master planning process and facilitate a series of engagement exercises.
The public is encouraged to attend one of the two open houses to provide comments and input related to the preparation of the updated 5-Year Parks and Recreation Master Plan. Children and students are strongly encouraged to attend to provide feedback on youth sports, programs, and activities. A digital survey can also be completed on the project website, www.PlanMuncieParks.com.
Information gathered from the open houses and online surveys will be used to inform the master plan’s recommendations, decisions, and priorities. A final master plan report is anticipated to be completed and adopted next Spring.
