MUNCIE, IN—Astemo Indiana announced plans to invest more than $11 million to expand its Muncie manufacturing operation, reinforcing the company’s long-term commitment to Delaware County.

The project includes the installation of additional injection molding capacity and a new assembly line for Intake Manifolds for both ICE and HEV vehicle applications.

“We appreciate the support of the Economic Development Alliance and the Muncie community. This partnership reinforces Astemo’s commitment to investing in Muncie, supporting our employees, and driving long-term growth,” said Alejandro Navarro Lopez, Vice President Operations at Astemo Americas.

“Astemo’s decision to expand its Muncie operation speaks to the strength of this facility, its workforce, and our community,” said Traci Lutton, Vice President of Economic Development for the Economic Development Alliance of Muncie-Delaware County. “Manufacturing companies with national and global footprints continually evaluate where to place future production and investment. We’re grateful Astemo continues to choose Muncie and Delaware County, and we’re proud to support a company that has demonstrated such a long-term commitment to our community.”

Over the past several months, the Economic Development Alliance worked closely with Astemo’s local leadership team to understand the company’s growth objectives, coordinate with local and state partners, and help position the project for success. Supporting the growth of existing employers remains one of the Alliance’s highest priorities. Astemo’s investment also exemplifies the Alliance’s recently completed Target Industry Study, which identified Advanced Manufacturing – Transportation Equipment and Mobility as one of Delaware County’s priority industry sectors. By supporting the growth of companies like Astemo, the Alliance is building on the county’s established strengths and advancing its long-term economic development strategy.

To support the investment, the Muncie City Council recently approved a five-year tax abatement for the project.

Originally established in 1999, the Muncie facility employs approximately 188 associates, 70 percent of whom reside in Muncie.
