MUNCIE, IN—The public is invited to attend the League of Women Voters of Muncie/Delaware County’s Earth Day meeting at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at the Maring-Hunt Library, 2005 S. High St.
The topic will be “Electrification.”
Making the presentation will be John Vann, a retired Ball State professor and sustainability promoter. He will discuss why electrification is important and how to switch from using fossil fuels to using more electricity.
Vann said, “Modern electrical replacements use technologies that are very efficient and deliver significant financial savings for homeowners. Electrification also reduces global-heating CO2 emissions, and in the home, relying on electric appliances and tools eliminates indoor air pollutants that threaten residents’ health.”
Most electrical alternatives currently qualify for federal tax credits and some qualify for rebates. Vann will explain how to take advantage of these benefits.
Before retiring as a professor at Ball State, Vann was a member of the Ball State task force that developed the minor in sustainability and served as its coordinator while also teaching sustainability courses.
He also was a member of Ball State’s Council on the Environment and the Ball State President’s Sustainability Working Group. He attended Al Gore’s first training program for Climate Presenters and has since given over 100 climate presentations. Vann, with his wife, Carolyn, who is a Ball State biology professor emerita, are volunteers with the non-profit Electrify Indiana initiative.
