YORKTOWN, IN—Yorktown High School senior Aurilia Moulton has learned the art of balance throughout high school in being involved with numerous activities.

She ran cross-country all four years and also participated in a wide array of dramatic endeavors, including her school’s drama club and at the Muncie Civic Theater. Along with acting roles, Moulton also has choreographed for numerous productions at school and for the youth shows at the Muncie Civic Theater.

Moulton said she grew up in competitive dance and translated those skills into the theater as she got older.

And that’s not all. Moulton is also a mentor at her school for underclassmen, a member of the National Honor Society and a member of student council where she serves as secretary this year.

“I really like to be able to give back both at school and in the community and be able to use my talents in different areas,” Moulton said, mentioning church, faith and family are important to her. “It’s just the opportunity to do something where I find joy and give that to other people.”

As a mentor at school, she enjoys encouraging freshman and helping alleviate their anxiety about starting high school. In fact, her own journey from freshman year until senior year is something she’s proud of.

“I have been able to take on some more leadership positions [throughout high school],” Moulton said. “The kid that walked into this school in freshman year is not the kid I am now. I’m able to be less about myself and be more about others this year than ever before.”

With so many activities, Moulton credits her family and her friends for supporting her and encouraging her to keep going and stay on top of everything.

“It really just comes down to that support system I have,” she said.

After graduation, Moulton, who comes from a family of teachers, will head to Ball State University to pursue a degree in early elementary education. She plans to minor in theater since she enjoys it so much.

With graduation on the very near horizon, Moulton has advice to leave behind for the underclassmen at her school.

“Take in every moment,” she said. “Sometimes we get so focused on the future and what’s happening, but we miss the little interactions in the hallways. Those little things are what make high school so special.”
