MUNCIE, IN—Muncie Civic will present 1776 from June 13–29. This gripping retelling of the drafting of the Declaration of Independence reveals how contentious—and fragile—the founding of the United States truly was. As John Adams and his allies struggle to build consensus around one of the nation’s most important documents, the story reminds us that democracy has never been neat or easy. “This is a revolution,” Adams states. “We’re going to have to offend somebody!”
While political consensus may still be elusive, audiences love the Tony award-winning musical. 1776 directed by Ball State Theatre faculty member Michael O’Hara with musical direction by Michael Williamson brings together a talented cast including Civic veterans Matt and Margaret Reeder, reprising their roles as John and Abigail Adams nearly 30 years after first appearing in this production—now joined by their son Graham as Thomas Jefferson. Performances run Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 PM and Sundays at 2:30 PM.
Tickets are available at munciecivic.org, by phone at 765.288.7529, or in person Wednesday through Friday from 12 to 6 PM.
