MUNCIE, IN – The Muncie Arts and Culture Council invites the community to celebrate eight extraordinary public artworks with six celebrations during the Art for the People: Public Art Celebration Weekend on April 24–25, 2026. This historic milestone showcases place-based, forward-thinking installations that reflect who Muncie is today and who we aspire to be tomorrow.
Made possible through a $500,000 American Rescue Plan Act investment, these artworks represent a significant shift in Muncie’s approach to public art from traditional commemorative works to community-driven installations shaped by neighborhood voices. Four new artworks and two longer-standing murals will be celebrated with neighborhood events, while two previously installed works invite exploration throughout the weekend.
“These projects are a celebration of Muncie’s creativity, resilience, and commitment to place,” noted Tania Said, Executive Director of MuncieArts. “Historically, Muncie’s public art has focused on commemorations of past histories. These installations are different—they’re forward-thinking works that reflect the voices of our neighbors and celebrate the communities we’re building together.”
FRIDAY, APRIL 24: MUSIC & GATEWAY PARK CELEBRATION
3:00 – 5:00 PM | MORE LOVE by Chris Silva at Future Choices, 905 South Walnut
A family celebration featuring Chris Silva’s 2023 colorful mural designed for clients and the public with music, food, games, and family-friendly crafts.
4:30 – 6:00 PM | Habitat Haven, Corner Park at Habitat for Humanity, 1424 S Hoyt Ave
Join for an evening celebration featuring artist Greg Mueller’s “Habitat Haven”—a sculptural gathering space encouraging reflection and neighborhood pride. The installation includes space for conversation, quiet time, play, and performance, designed as a safe community third space open to all. Join neighbors for live music, family-friendly activities, and light bites. Press remarks with Mayor Ridenour and others begin at 5:00 pm. 8:00 PM | Public Art Benefit Concert for Muncie Arts at Room 5 Piano Bar, 2150 W White River Blvd End your evening with live music including Doc and the Little Chicago Band, Brandon Rodriguez, and Mike Martin and the Beautiful Mess. $10 admission, $5 for students (21+)
SATURDAY, APRIL 25: WHITELY NEIGHBORHOOD ART TOUR
Three celebrations throughout Whitely invite neighbors to experience artworks that speak to the heart of the community:
9:00 – 11:00 AM | Awareness is a Ripple and Mother Nurture by Ashley Nora at ArtRize, 1600 N Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd
Enjoy coffee, donuts, and DJ music while experiencing Ashley Nora’s dynamic murals reflecting the vibrancy and resilience of the Whitely community, the connection to nearby McCulloch Park, and the people-focused mission of this community space. Family-friendly art activities and reflective stations invite engagement. Press remarks at 9:30 AM.
10:00 AM – 12:00 PM | ChoraGraph by P1 Studio at Roy C. Buley Center Boys & Girls Club, 1111 N Penn St
A family celebration featuring Project One Studio’s interactive play-based structure designed for young people and families, and showcasing words about community from youth voices in Whitely. This gathering and performance space incorporates words and images from the neighborhood. Enjoy yard games, DJ music, light bites, and art activities. Press remarks at 11:00 AM.
10:30 AM – 12:30 PM | Mantel of Leadership by Cheryl Derricotte at Shaffer Chapel AME Church, 1501 E. Highland Ave
A party with music, light brunch, and museum tours celebrates Cheryl Derricotte’s sculptural installation honoring the legacy and cultural significance of Shaffer Chapel. Created in close partnership with church leadership, this work reflects deep community roots and a shared vision of renewal, remembrance, and reverence. Press remarks at 12:00 PM.
12:00 – 2:00 PM | Five Dots by Nicole Ponsler at Webb-Hunt Branch Muncie Public Library, Hoyt & Memorial Close out Saturday afternoon with live music by Jansen and the White River Dives to celebrate the neighbor-led mural project and a weekend of public art for the people.

Eight artworks. Six celebrations. Come see them all
“Muncie is investing in more than art—we are investing in people, in pride, and in progress,” said Mayor Dan Ridenour. “These public artworks reflect our commitment to economic development and meaningful neighborhood revitalization that supports our goal of growing our city’s population through vibrant, inclusive spaces.”
All events are free and open to the public – RSVPs are encouraged for event organizer preparation.
Attendees are welcome to enjoy festivities at individual locations or follow the Art for the People Public Art Tour from site to site throughout the weekend.
