MUNCIE, IN—National Library Week, April 19–25, 2026, is a time to celebrate the many ways libraries bring people together, spark imagination, and support lifelong learning. From books and digital resources to job assistance and creative programming, libraries are essential to thriving communities. This year’s theme is, “Find Your Joy” and Muncie Public Library (MPL) invites everyone to join the celebration by stopping by any of the four MPL branches to discover unique programs and services, such as free Wi-Fi, digital collections, book clubs, STEAM programs, technology help, and more.

First celebrated in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries of all types across the country each April.

In honor of National Library Week, Muncie Mayor Dan Ridenour issued a proclamation encouraging residents to visit MPL and to take advantage of the many resources found at each of the four branches. In part, the proclamation noted that, “libraries serve as vibrant community hubs, connecting people with knowledge, technology, and resources while fostering civic engagement, critical thinking, and cultural enrichment.”

As part of the weeklong celebration, MPL will feature open microphones at each branch so visitors can stop by to record how they find joy at the library. The days and times for the open microphone will vary throughout the week. Other events are scheduled for Saturday, April 25 and include a Friends of MPL Pop-Up Book Sale from 12 — 4 p.m. at the Friends Building at 1110 W. Memorial Drive. The book sale coincides with the Muncie Arts & Culture Council public art tour from 12 — 2 p.m. at the “Five Dots” mural by artist Nicole Ponsler. The art event will feature live music and takes place at the corner of Hoyt Avenue and Memorial Drive. Also on the same day, Maring-Hunt Library, located at 2005 S. High Street, will host a Garden Kick Off Party from 2 — 4 p.m. to welcome visitors to the green space, rentable garden plots, the Story Walk project, and to provide free plants and seeds for gardeners.
